Q1. Is there an ideal age to learn to play piano?
A1. Very young children should be encouraged to gain an appreciation of music through play including singing, dancing and playing percussion instruments. I recommend to start piano lessons from the age of 5/6.
Q2. I'm an adult and have never played piano before, will I really be able to learn?
A2. Children are still physically developing and hence have the finger dexterity required but adults are often more dedicated in their practice. In essence its never too late to learn and I use a number of different teaching methods dependent on the age and previous experience of my students, so please get in touch to discuss your specific needs
Q3. Will I need a piano to practice on or will a keyboard be sufficient?
A3. Practice is essential if you want to progress between lessons. A keyboard is absolutely fine for complete beginners and young children and obviously keeps the cost down, but I would recommend a larger digital or acoustic piano (depending on the space you have available).
Q4. Do you support and enter students for exams?
A4. I generally encourage my students to work towards the ABRSM exams and have an excellent track record of success all the way up to grade 8. However each student is different and some students just want to learn to play for pleasure so I work with each student to identify what their goals are and help them to achieve those goals
Q5. Do we have to travel to you for lessons?
A5. I mainly deliver lessons at my home studio in Great Blakenham near Ipswich but on occasions if I have a number of students in one particular area I may travel to them. Please get in touch to discuss your specific needs.
Q6. Do you deliver lessons in local schools?
A6. I am currently discussing the option of delivering private lessons at a number of local schools. If you are involved in a school in the Ipswich or Stowmarket area that could be interested in this service please get in touch.
Q7. Do you offer discounts if multiple familly members become students?
A7. Yes, please see my "lessons" page for details
